This certificate program aims to develop nurses’ knowledge and skills in advocating for themselves as well as at the organizational, community, regional, or global levels. The future of nursing is informed by the lived experiences of nurses, educational preparation, and personal connection to social and professional issues that compel action. Globally, there are more than 29 million nurses in a career that is cited as the most trusted profession, positioning nurses to leverage their social capital to engage in advocacy. Nurses need advocacy skills beyond political advocacy.

Key Features:

This interactive program shows the learner how advocacy shifts from micro to macro levels – from patient advocacy to policy change. Content includes evidence-based frameworks, self-assessment and reflection exercises, leadership development, and interviews with people sharing lived experiences. All four modules thread black maternal child health as one example within the advocacy context of social equality, however the content and framework provided applies to all contexts of advocacy (e.g. geopolitical, economic, technological, artificial intelligence, etc). This program also features a Learner’s Reflection Guide which learners can utilize for self-reflection and personal/professional growth as they begin their advocacy journey.
